A herd of cows caused udder chaos by 'storming' a village - but locals say they actually helped clear up a local play park. Residents of East Allington in Devon woke up at 6am today (Thurs) to discover the animals - around 50 of them - everywhere. One anonymous local managed to snap the chaos - showing the precession of 40-50 cows roaming down the road. Unfortunately a gate enclosing the beasts along a popular pathway for dog walkers up the road had not been properly secured - allowing them to roam free. While it remains unclear who left open the gate, an anonymous local was quick to say it was likely not the farmers' fault. Some locals even said they did some good - as the cows trampled an 'overgrown' patch of grassland used by local kids allowing them to play on it again. One villager explained: "It was about ten past six in the morning and I woke up to what sounded like really heavy rain outside. "When I drew back the curtains though, I was surprised to see 50+ cows stampeding down the road. "They usually lived just up the road, maybe 100m away. We're not sure what happened, but we can only guess a walker left it open accidentally. "We did try to get them to go back up the road they came from, but they were having none of it - even after we tried bribing them with food. "It was a little bit nerve wracking I suppose but they weren't fully grown cows, so it wasn't as bad, but given how many there were it was a little frightening. "They eventually gathered in a little area we call the ditch in the village, so I ran into there to shoo them all out. "A few other residents blocked all the exits, so eventually we managed to get them onto the road and back on their way to the field just before the farmer turned up." After around an hour of driving the cows out with a mixture of yelling and bribery with food, the farmer eventually arrived to help just as the herd moved back to it's pasture.
