An overflowing river swept away a house as the owner clung to the wreckage in the Philippines.

Footage shows the wooden stilt house being carried away by the raging deluge with the man holding onto the tin roof in Cebu city, on August 4.

Terrified neighbour Bruce Contratista said local rescuers were still searching for their neighbour.

He said: ‘I hope he is safe and the rescue team find him as soon as possible. It was such a scary moment for all of us.'

Several villages along the Kinalumsan River were submerged in flash floods after a thunderstorm pounded the area.

The Philippines and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November.
