Marijuana worth USD 26,526.78 seized from vehicle in southern India

Police officers recovered marijuana worth Rs 21,00,000 (USD 26,526.78) from a car in southern India's Telangana.

The incident happened in Durgapura junction in Suryapet district on August 4.

Visuals showed police officers take out big sacks of marijuana stacked behind the car. It was learnt that the drugs were seized during a vehicle inspection. The car was travelling from Vijayawada area when it was stopped and checked, only for marijuana weighing 210 kgs (462.97 pounds) to be recovered. The car was also seized and its driver, Nilesh Subhash Lundge was interrogated.

Nilesh said that he was from Pune in Maharashtra and that he was suffering from financial problems. His earnings as a driver weren't enough for him to feed the whole family. He then stumbled upon this opportunity of earning Rs 10,000 (USD 126.32). A day ago, he was asked to take the drug-laden car Pune and was paid the above-mentioned amount. The Kodad police also recovered his mobile phone.

The police are in search of the marijuana supplier and have promised rewards to those who would be able to catch him.
