Floral tributes were left today at the scene of a horror nightclub fire which killed at least 14 people in Thailand.

The blaze ripped through the allegedly illegally-operating 'Mountain B' venue during a live music performance in the early hours of Friday morning August 5.

Revellers were trapped inside the one-storey building and burned alive as other screaming guests rushed to escape. Some of them were covered in flames as they fled.

Police and local government officials have been accused of turning a blind eye to the nightclub, which was registered as a restaurant, and staying open after hours.

The manager Suwadee Phuttaseutrong said the owner would 'provide compensation and wreaths' to the victims and their families. She said the owner 'had not fled the country' following the inferno in which 14 people died and more than 40 were injured.

Police General Sompong Chingduang said that investigators found that the building's exits were locked - leaving only one door through which to escape.

The police chief said the owner will face charges of negligence causing death, operating without a licence and illegally adapting the building.
