The night sky lit up over Gaza on Saturday 6 August, as rockets fired from the territory were intercepted by Israel's Iron Dome missile defence system.

Israeli air strikes also hit the territory.

The rockets coming from Gaza are believed to have been fired by Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) after Israeli air strikes flattened buildings in Gaza on Saturday, including the home of a senior PIJ commander Khaled Mansour, who was killed in the strike.

The tit-for-tat attacks have raised fears of another major escalation in the conflict, which is reported to have killed dozens of people so far.

The latest round of fighting began with Israel’s killing of another senior PIJ commander in a wave of strikes on Friday that Israel said was to prevent an imminent attack.
