This is the dramatic moment a house plunged down a hill as heavy rain caused a landslide in Thailand.

Footage shows the structure collapsing with the eroded soil on a muddy hill hours after a tropical storm in Trat province on August 7.

No one was hurt as the house, used as occasional living quarters by monks at a nearby Buddhist temple, was empty when the incident happened.

Wat Khiri Wihan temple abbot Phra Sophon Thammathada said: ‘The house is 27 years old. It is not a permanent resident and the monks would only stay there during summer.

‘The damage was not much as there was hardly anything inside. We will have to consult with the villagers about rebuilding a new cubicle for the monks.'

The monk's personal belongings were completely destroyed along with the 30 metre-wide floor area around the property.

The landslide was believed to have been triggered by continuous downpour softening the soil carrying the house located on the edge of the hill.

Local authorities said they will have the concrete house dismantled and build a landslide barrier to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.

Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November.

Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods which cause rivers to flow faster and become dangerous.
