Sanhe Sluice, completed in July 1953, is an important flood control project in the Huaihe River basin. The Sanhe Sluices discharge an average of nearly 20 billion cubic meters of flood water annually, and more than 70 percent of the upstream floods are discharged into the river by the sluices. The project has brought into play huge comprehensive benefits in flood control, water supply and ecology.
