Store signs flashed intermittently as record rainfall threw Seoul, South Korea into chaos on Monday.

Footage shows the lights blinking during the downpour, which disrupted the power supply and flooded shops in the capital city's upscale Gangnam district on August 8.

Authorities said at least eight people have died in the catastrophic floods in Seoul. The Interior and Safety Ministry said 14 others were injured while six more were missing.

South Korean president Yoon Suk-yeol has ordered the evacuation of residents from high-risk areas as the Korean Meteorological Agency expects heavy rains to continue battering Seoul until Wednesday.

Some 16 inches of rain had fallen in parts of Seoul on Monday - reportedly the highest since rainfall records in the country began.
