Russian military equipment is seen abandoned after Ukrainian forces made gains in the Kharkiv region.

A number of destroyed Russian tanks can be seen in the footage filmed on Tuesday (August 9) in the village of Malaya Rohan, 13 miles east of Kharkiv. The village was recently occupied by Russian forces until their retreat.

On Tuesday, Ukrainian officials said its military had captured ground around Kharkiv, the country's second-largest city.

Fierce battles were fought all over the Kharkiv Oblast, especially in the village of Vil'khivka, around 4 miles to the north of Malaya Rohan, which saw a school become the scene of a major skirmish between Russian and Ukrainian forces. The remains of Russian military uniforms and ammunition boxes can still be seen.

The structure of the school was totally destroyed during the battle with a portion of the building completely collapsing.

While Russia no longer occupies these villages, it still continues to launch missile and artillery barrages into the region.
