A wild alligator was spotted ‘window shopping' outside a dollar store in Georgia.

Footage shows the 5ft-long reptile lying on the sidewalk in front of a shop in Laney Walker, Augusta on August 4.

The creature remained scarily still for 15 minutes before staff from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources arrived to capture it.

The alligator was taken to their facility in Thomson city to be tagged for records and released into the Savannah river later.

Resident Steffany Fallen said: ‘The alligator looked like it wanted to get something out of the Dollar tree. It was definitely window shopping.'

There are an estimated 200,000 American alligators that live in Georgia, the majority of which are found in rivers and swamps.
