A man has shared his nan's genius tip to stop heating getting lost to the walls this winter – and all you need is a roll of tin foil.

Carl Alexis, from Swansea, uploaded the hack on TikTok (@carlosmanwelly) where the video has since wracked up over 371,000 views.

The IT worker, who first heard the tip from his grandmother, had all but forgotten about it until the recent rise in energy bills got him thinking about ways to save money.

“I was looking for ways to conserve energy due to the rising costs,” Carl said.

“I can feel as I pass the radiator, more heat coming from it.

“To save money on energy bills, simply place some silver foil down the back of a radiator.

"This will reflect back into the room rather than letting it uselessly escape through the walls of your house.”

TikTok users were blown away and were quick to share their thoughts.

“This has definitely made a difference!,” wrote one user, who had tried the hack.

Another person added: "Thanks for the tip Bryn."

"Very nice brother," someone else said, followed by two heart face emojis.

When asked how rising costs has impacted his own life, Carl added: "It has meant that I have less spending money and have to budget more carefully.

"And look at ways to reduce my outgoings and keep my house running at the same time."

“What about other parts of the room that escapes heat? Can't do foil paper wallpapering,” commented another user.
