A seventy-year-old woman gave birth to a baby boy through the process of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) in northern India's Rajasthan.

The footage shows the baby and his mother, named Chandravathi, and her 75-year-old husband, Gopinath Singh, at the Indi IVF Infertility Centre in the Alwar district. Visuals also show a doctor feeding the baby with a small spoon.

The couple has been married for 54 tears. Singh is an army veteran and a war hero. He fought for the Indian army in the 1971 war for Bangladesh's liberation.

The couple had multiple unsuccessful attempts before being referred to this clinic. Thanks to the team of doctors led by expert Dr. Pankaj Kumar, Chandravathi managed to get pregnant on the third attempt of the IVF process.

In December 2021, the Indian Government passed a bill stating that a couple that is over 50 cannot access any IVF infertility centres in the country. The law came to effect in June 2022 and therefore didn't affect Chandravathi's case as the woman started IVF before the legislation.

The footage was filmed on August 8.

An elderly couple, above 70 years of age, gave birth to a baby boy through the process of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) in northern India's Rajasthan.

The incident happened at the Indi IVF infertility centre in Alwar district on August 8.

Visuals showed the joyful scenes at the centre where 70-year-old Chandravathi and her husband of 75 years, Gopinath Singh have given birth to their newborn, 54 years after marriage. One of the doctors, who was part of the team that successfully conducted the delivery, was seen feeding milk to the child with a small spoon. The child was also administered an injection.

The team of doctors, led by IVF expert Dr Pankaj Kumar, was overjoyed at this delivery as he reckoned that this might be the first instance of a 70-year-old lady giving birth in India. Hailing this process to be the success of IVF, he congratulated the couple and thanked his team who made this happen.

It is indeed startling that a 70-year-old lady was successfully able to carry the pregnancy and deliver the baby, a process done through C-section. Residents of the Singhana village near Haryana border in Jhunjhunu, the elderly couple have had multiple unsuccessful attempts at childbirth from big metro cities. However, they were referred to the Indi IVF infertility centre in Alwar by a relative, who is a lawyer.

The process was started and Chandravathi got pregnant in the third attempt. Her husband, Gopinath is an army veteran and a war hero, having fought for the Indian army in the 1971 war for Bangladesh's liberation. He had copped a gunshot to his leg in the war and it has been 40 years since he retired from the army. Now, he finally has his own child and it is indeed a very happy moment for the new parents.

It also is to be kept in mind that this process was a legal one. The Government of India passed a bill in December 2021-January of this year that a couple, above 50 years of age, would not be treated at any IVF infertility centre. This law reportedly came into effect in June 2022. However, the law isn't applicable in Chandravathi's case as her treatment had begun and she had become pregnant before the above-mentioned time frame.
