A fearless homeowner caught a deadly king cobra which he found hiding under his couch.

Footage shows the resident poking the snake out from its hiding place under the piece of furniture in their house in Tigbauan town, Iloilo province, the Philippines, on August 1.

The animal proved difficult to capture since it kept crawling away into tiny spaces under the living room sofas.

When the man finally cornered the serpent, he quickly covered its head with some cloth and pinned its head down with his foot to keep it from retaliating.

He then brought it outside and taped its mouth shut before sealing it inside a sack. The family later contacted the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office to hand over the cobra.

Frances Marie Genzola, the resident's daughter, said: 'This is the first time we've seen a king cobra here in our barangay. At first, we didn't know it was a cobra. We only found out after environmental officers confirmed it.

'We don't know how it entered our house, but we're thankful that all of us are safe.'

The king cobra is one of the deadliest snakes on Earth. The amount of neurotoxin it injects in a single bite can kill a human within a couple of hours.
