Ceiling panels collapsed as rainwater leaked into the Palmerola International Airport in Comayagua, Honduras on Wednesday.

Footage shows the water seeping in from above the airport's check-in desk and flooding the building's reception area during a storm on August 10.

The cascading downpour drenched electronic appliances, prompting staff to unplug the machines to avoid further damage. Moments later, panels dropped from the false ceiling as shocked staff and travelers recorded the scene with their phones.

The airport has yet to release a statement on the incident, local media reported.

It is the second time the multi-million-dollar airport was flooded, with a rainstorm also inundating it on May 22.

The Palmerola International Airport was inaugurated in October last year, and was built to replace the old Toncontin International Airport in the capital city Tegucigalpa.

It is said to have cost about 163 million USD, but its 'shoddy' construction has been called into question by local officials, who have called for the reopening of the Toncontin Airport.
