A motorcycle rider dodged a falling 13ft-long tree branch when it fell into oncoming traffic on a busy road in Thailand.

Dashcam footage shows the rider swerving away from the opposite lane when he noticed the trunk plunging from the old hardwood in Chiang Mai province on August 8.

The owner of the dash cam slowed down so no one was hit by the debris.

Driver Pakpoom Klaiwongwan said: ‘The bigger debris smashed to the ground but small branches fell to another pickup truck behind me.

‘If I was driving a bit faster that time, my car would have been smashed by the giant branch.'

The route connecting Lamphun province to Chiang Mai province is known by locals as the rubber tree road. The road has huge rubber trees that are more than 130 years old and more than 98ft-tall towering on both sides.

Drivers and commuters urged local officials to do something about road safety in the area.

Pakpoom added: ‘I hope this video encourages other commuters to be careful while driving through this route. Local officials should also work towards road safety.'
