UK man makes thousands of pounds a month selling upcycled furniture
A man who says 'one person's rubbish is another man's treasure' is making thousands of pounds a month and between £300 to £700 a week upcycling furniture and selling it on. Jamie Whittle, 37, from Dorset has been upcycling since 2019, initially starting to save money for his wedding to fiance Isabella, 34, who works in marketing. Jamie said: "I am a practical person so it seemed a sensible thing to do. "I enjoy doing it and during the pandemic, my other business wasn't operating so I carried on doing this - now I do this alongside with my other business. As well as upcycling, Jamie is a sports specialist going into primary schools and helping teach PE. Jamie has taken to Tik Tok to document his upcycling journey and how he does it. Jamie said: "You can pick pieces up from everywhere, including Facebook, Gumtree, eBay and even the tip. "The Tik Tok page has been going for three months, it has taken off much quicker than I ever thought it would. "It's gone from getting a couple of views to getting 1.8 million." Jamie said it is easy to make a living off upcycling if you wanted to. He said: "You could do it full time if you have the skills and the patience. "It is a decent mark up that I have managed to make off them, there is a fair amount of time and patience you need to be driving around and collecting furniture. "It does depend on how many pieces you do at a time - it can very quickly consume you." Initially, Jamie started upcycling furniture from his house but now works out of a storage unit after admitting it was sometimes a struggle getting to the couch.
