Five members of a family were rescued by fire bridge officials after their car fell into a river from a bridge in western India's Maharashtra.

The incident happened in the SM Joshi Bridge in Pune district on August 12.

Visuals showed the fire brigade officials helping the stranded people out of the car as they waded through the water to make their way out of the area.

A rope was used by them to conduct the rescue operation. According to a report, the car was washed away by the river, whose current was strengthened after water was discharged from a dam following heavy rainfall.

The family members were identified as Kunal Lalwani (28), Priya Lalwani (22), Kapil Lalwani (21), Vanchita Lalwani (13), and Krushna Lalwani (8).

The report claims that the fire brigade team received a call at around 1:46 am at night about the car being stuck in the river under the SM Joshi bridge after which the team of firemen rushed to the spot to conduct the rescue.

The family members were reportedly on their way to meet relatives in Palghar district when their car got washed away by the river. After learning about the incident, the Pune City police too reached the spot.
