A 75-foot-long 'Rakhi' was tied to a tree by a procession of women in central India's Madhya Pradesh. This ceremony was also performed as part of the country's 75th Independence Day celebrations.

The incident happened in the Simori village of Betul district on August 11.

Visuals showed the group of women carrying the massive 'Rakhi' in a procession while being surrounded and cheered by men waving Indian national flags on both sides of the road. The women were then seen tying the gigantic 'Rakhi' to the tree and promising to protect it and other trees, on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

For the unversed, Raksha Bandhan is a festival where siblings, mostly sisters tie 'Rakhis' to their brothers and the latter pledge their protection.

The same concept was emulated in this regard as well where these women pledged to protect trees and stop them from being cut down. The women also said that this was a practice that had been followed for the past 20 years.
