This is the heartstopping moment a quick-thinking pedestrian dodged a out-of-control car as it crashed into a shop.

The man was sitting outside the phone shop when the white Toyota came hurtling towards the building in Ayutthaya, Thailand, on August 10 afternoon.

CCTV footage shows how Duangduen Dinil, 53, noticed the hazard in the corner of his eye and leapt to his feet to avoid being crushed by the vehicle.

No one was hurt in the incident but the crash damaged the car and the storefront.

Duangduen said: ‘I was waiting in front of the shop when I heard a revving engine sound. When I looked up, the car was speeding towards me.'

Duangduen added that the car would have hit his back if he had not reacted as quickly as he did.

He said: ‘If I reacted later, even by as little as a second, it would have hit me. I felt the car swish behind my back.'

The store owner Phachara Meesipsom, 55, said he talked to the sedan's driver who claimed he was driving to a nearby school to pick up his child but crashed clipped a motorcycle along the way then crashed into the shop.

Investigations on the incident are ongoing.

Thailand has one of the world's deadliest roads. The southeast Asian country has one of the highest rates of road fatalities in the world while ranking first in the region with at least 20,000 people dying on its roads every year.
