According to local sources, the Islamist group is marching across the capital to commemorate its victory. Local events and speeches held by Taliban officials will also take place today.
When the Taliban took control of Kabul on August 15, 2021, following the withdrawal of US forces, they promised that they would have brought stability and peace to the country.
But over this year, the group has imposed tough and discriminatory policies including limiting access to education and work for women and girls. It has also been involved in the persecution of the Hazara ethnic group.
The Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan has triggered a devastating humanitarian and economic crisis.
