Violence erupted in the slums of Nairobi in Kenya following the announcement of presidential hopeful Raila Odinga's loss in the elections on Monday.

Video shows thugs running amok on the streets of Mathare, hurling stones at a sedan before forcing open the vehicle's doors and climbing inside. They shattered the car's rear windshield and also apparently damaged its engine, which appeared to emit white smoke.

Chaos broke out in parts of Kenya as Odinga's supporters swarmed the streets to put up barricades, light bonfires, and create noise barrages to protest what they alleged was a fraudulent election.

It is the fifth time Odinga, 77, has lost the presidential elections. This year, he was bested by rival William Ruto, who snatched a narrow victory with 50.49 percent of the votes, or roughly 7,176,141 votes.
