A monitor lizard was found sandwiched between cement walls after it tried to escape stray dogs in Thailand.

The large reptile was discovered by resident Kanya Suksai, 40, wedged in a narrow gap near her stone fence in Nakhon Si Thammarat on August 2.

She called animal control specialists, who used a snare pole to hoist the beast up. However, they reportedly had difficulty as the animal was panicked and would thrash wildly while held by the noose.

It took three hours before the monitor lizard had finally exhausted its energy and allowed the officers to carry it up to safety.

The massive animal reportedly measured around 7ft long and weighed some 50 kilos. It also had an open wound, which the rescuers patched up and disinfected before releasing the lizard into the wild.

Kanya said: ‘The dogs were chasing the monitor lizard so it ran and hid in between the narrow walls. It clearly was having trouble coming out so I called the rescue team.'
