Over 50,000 people took part in a world record attempt on India's Independence Day, carrying a 9-kilometre-long flag.

The attempt took place in Dharwad, Karnataka, on August 15 and saw tens of thousands of locals carry the flag to mark the 75th anniversary of the country's independence.

It took almost a month for 200 workers to stitch together the huge flag.

Over 50,000 people made a world record attempt on Independence day and carried the massive 9000 meters (9 km) long and 9 feet wide Indian tricolor in Kalaghatgi, a nondescript village in the Dharwad district of Karnataka which is all set to enter the World Book of Records. The rally started off from Dasti Koppa Bridge and ended at Kalagatti Cross in Kalaghatagi Town after covering a distance of 9kms.

This initiative was led by former Congress MLA Santhosh Lad, a philanthropist, and president of the Santhosh Lad Foundation. People from all walks of life, young, old men, women, and children of the Hubli region joined the rally to create history on the occasion of Independence day as India completes 75 glorious years as an independent nation.

On August 15, 2021, Santhosh Laad Foundation made it to the India Book of Records by carrying a 2000 meter (2km) long 9 feet wide tricolor in a rally with 8,000 people.
