Baby Great White Shark Off Newport Beach Viewed On Whale Watching Cruise

This great white shark was spotted off Newport Beach on Tuesday August 28 on the 3:30 pm whale watching cruise on the Ocean Explorer. About 5-6 feet in length. Quite a trip with blue whales, dolphin and great white.

Baby Great White sharks feed on small fish and sometimes other sharks. Once they reach adulthood, their prey includes sea turtles, seals, sea lions, porpoises, dolphins, and small whales. Great white sharks play a vital role in their ecosystems because they are the top predator of the food chain; they keep populations of marine mammals in check. Attacks on humans are rare and humans are responsible for the deaths of millions of sharks every year due to by-catch, shark-finning, and trophy hunting.
