This is the heartwarming moment a brave local swam through 5ft deep floods to rescue a drowning dog.

The pooch was struggling to find a way out of the muddy deluge which had engulfed homes following torrential rain in Tachileik, Myanmar, on August 14.

A heroic resident who was in the area helping with the relief efforts bravely donned a lifejacket and swam through the thick water to reach the dog.

Footage shows how he dragged the animal to safety. He then helped the pooch climb up a ledge where several other residents were waiting.

Onlooker Ya Win said: 'The man was brave to get into the water because it was deep and muddy. Nobody could see the bottom. If he hadn't taken the dog out, it would have become tired and drowned.'

Tachileik City in the east of the country suffered some of the region's worst ever floods due to the heavy rainfall from tropical storm Mulan and the rise in water level from Mae Sai river. Residents were trapped in houses near Mae Sai river without food or electricity.

Rescue teams have been delivering food and aid to those trapped affected and evacuating them to safe centres.
