Zaporizhzhia's emergency team trains for potential nuclear disaster as Russia opposes demilitarisation
Members of the Emergency and Rescue Department of the city of Zaporizhzhia carry out nuclear disaster training amid fears of a potential catastrophe. This comes after intense fighting: on August 5 and 7, shells hit high-voltage power lines at the plant causing a fire. One of the power units has to be turned off.
The nuclear power plant has been occupied by Russian troops since March 6, but the Ukrainian Energy State Agency keeps running its operations.
The UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, has called for military withdrawals from Zaporizhzhia but Russia has opposed the complete demilitarisation of the site.
The nuclear disaster training was observed by the Minister of Energy and Minister of Interior, as well as the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the head of the military administration of the region.
The footage was filmed on August 17.
