This is the moment a car crashed into a roadside restaurant after the sleep-deprived driver allegedly blacked out at the wheel in Thailand.

Shocking video shows a sedan plowing through the restaurant's iron fence before smashing into tables and chairs in Pathum Thani province on August 15 evening. The out-of-control vehicle barely missed a pair of customers who were eating their dinner.

The male driver, 60, was a customer who had just finished having a meal with his friends in the store. He claimed he had become drowsy after spending several nights sleepless in bed.

He said: ‘I excused myself because I was feeling sleepy. I went back to my car and remembered putting the aircon on. Next thing I know, I was inside the restaurant with the car.

‘I wasn't drunk and I have already spoken to the owner that I will be taking care of the damage costs.'
