Afghans took to the streets for Independence Day in the heart of Southall, west London (19th August), attracting revellers from as far away as Dover and New Zealand as well as well-known Afghan social media personalities.
This came days after the Taliban celebrated the first anniversary of their return to power.

The crowd waved the national flag, set off fireworks and danced to music, until police confiscated the speaker as it was deemed to noisy for the residential area.

The day is celebrated to commemorate being freed from British influence and the Anglo-Afghan Treaty, which recognises the country's independence and sovereignty.

The area has seen three independence days celebrated in a week - with British-Pakistanis and Indians also coming out in large numbers.
