Performers dressed and painted as tigers and other big cats wowed crowds with their 'tiger dance' on August 19.

They were taking part in Pili Vesha, a folk dance popular in southern India's Karnataka state.

The event took place in the Maryhill area of Mangalore, a city in Dakshina Kannada district. It was part of festivities marking Krishna Janmashtami, a Hindu festival.

Visuals showed the performers jumping over a seated human chain, and collecting currency notes from the ground with their mouths, among other stunts.

The group also smashed lemons using their heads and even tried to open soda bottles using openers that were held between their lips.

A crowd cheered the performances.

The Pili Vesha or 'tiger dance' is performed during Krishna Janmashtami at Udupi and during Ganesh Chaturthi in Moodbidri in the Tulu Nadu region of Karnataka.

Among the animals depicted were leopards, melanistic tigers and tigers.
