Cop's vigilance helps save woman who fell while getting off moving train in western India
A cop showed presence of mind as he rescued a woman who fell while getting off a moving train in western India's Maharashtra.
The incident happened on platform number three at the Gondia railway junction of the eponymous district on August 16.
Visuals showed the female passenger, later identified as Apoorva Mandlikar, losing her balance as she tried to get down the moving train along with her luggage. She held on to the handle of the train's gate but ended up falling on her face on the platform. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable, named Pramod Kumar, who was patrolling the platform at that point of time, jumped to action as soon as he saw this and ensured the woman was out of harm's way.
The lady, after falling down, was perilously close to the gap between the train and the platform and had the cop not reacted as swiftly as he did, a tragedy could have occured. Few other people came running to the woman and the cop after the incident happened.
According to a report, the train that had entered the platform was the 12807 Samta Express and Mandlikar had mistakenly boarded it instead of getting on train number 12843. She panicked and tried to get off the train when this accident happened.
