A minute's silence was held at the Cenotaph in Sydney's Martin Place on Thursday 18 August for Australians that died in the Vietnam War.

Vietnam Veterans’ Day was originally known as Long Tan Day, chosen to commemorate the men of D Company, 6RAR who fought in the battle of Long Tan on 18 August 1966.

Fifty-six years later, on Vietnam Veterans Day, people paused and reflected on the bravery, teamwork and endurance that Australians displayed throughout the war.
