Toraja in Indonesia's South Sulawesi has many unique traditions, but one of the more unusual is surely the Sisemba mass kicking fight, filmed here on Saturday 20 August.

Perhaps surprisingly, it is part of celebrations around harvest time in North Toraja and is believed to uphold values around kinship.

It is also thought that without it there may be a poor rice harvest.

It is held in an open field and even children are permitted to participate.

But despite the seeming violence of the event, participants may not kick those who have fallen down and those who have been injured while participating may not hold a grudge towards their opponents.
