Homes were flooded after a river burst its banks following heavy rain in central Thailand.

Riverside homes were inundated with 4ft deep floods when the Noi River, a tributary of the Chao Phraya River, overflowed and sent water into nearby communities in Ang Thong province on August 20.

Some of the wooden houses stood on tall stilts to keep the locals safe from the seasonal deluge. Well-prepared villagers also keep a rowboat to evacuate or travel when the water level increases.

Authorities said the Chao Phraya River that flows through Ang Thong is still rising as storms continue to hit the province.

Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar and the Philippines are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November.

Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods.
