Six schoolchildren were injured when a bridge collapsed into a lake in Thailand.

The group of 290 fifth graders and their teachers were on a field trip when the structure suddenly snapped, plunging them into the pool below.

Drone footage of the scenic spot shows an overhead view of where the bridge gave out. Its midsection had been submerged underwater after the incident in Nakhon Si Thammarat province on August 19.

Six students were reported injured. Three of them were taken to the Chiang Yai Hospital, and the rest were rushed to the Chaloem Phrakiat Hospital. Their parents were notified of the incident, teachers said.

Village council chief Sakorn Somchan said: ‘There were more than a hundred people on the bridge when it happened. Everybody appeared to be having a great time crossing together.

'However, some were jumping on the bridge so it collapsed. Luckily it fell slowly, otherwise more people would have been injured.'

Local media said around 100 people were on the bridge at the time of collapse, with some of the youngsters reportedly jumping up and down on the walkway.
