A br scrambled to save two schoolchildren who were swept away by raging floods in Thailand.

Officers rushed to the overflowing weir in the Ban Chan subdistrict of Udon Thani province to save the sixth-graders who fell into the water on August 21.

One girl managed to cling onto some bamboo trees while a male student floated after grabbing hold of a clump of reeds.

A brave resident, using what appeared to be a water gallon as a makeshift life preserver, dived into the water and swam towards the girl, carrying her on his back to safety.

Meanwhile, the other villagers rode on a boat and hoisted the boy onto the vessel.

Both of the children were successfully rescued without issue.

Weerapol Raksamerwong, Vice President of BanDung City Council, said: 'The villagers told me what was happening so I went to the scene. Both the kids were crying for help. Each village should have life jackets for use in times of need.

‘There were strong currents so the rescuers had to help each other pull the boat. Luckily, both of the kids survived such a scary incident. Parents should keep close eyes on their children especially during the rainy season.'

Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar, and the Philippines are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November.

Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods.
