A townhouse is starting to lean over in Bangkok - leaving residents terrified it could collapse.

Footage shows the 50-year-old slanted building this morning August 23 in the Thai capital's Sukhumvit Road.

The structure reportedly started to lean last year when cracks in the uneven pavement appeared. However, the home is now slanting more as the suspected subsidence increases.

Concerned resident and former civil engineer Patai Padungtin said they were worried about safety and confused about what was really happening in their homes.

He said: ‘The building seemed to be tilting upwards, the facade is pointing up. I see many sale signs on the rooms because of this, but many are still using them as shops. I wonder if anyone will come and inspect the structure and its strength.

‘Even though I don't get anything out of it, as a community person and a former civil engineer, I would like to inform the council and the Bangkok governor Chatchat Sittiphan.'

Meanwhile, building owner Surasak said they were confused as the buildings were upright for more than three decades until the problem started.

He said: ‘We have never seen any signs of danger after living here for 35 years. The buildings are 40-years-old then we noticed the problem about five years ago.'

The residents are monitoring the issue continuously, although the local engineering office has reportedly issued a safety certificate saying the buildings are suitable to live in. There were also reportedly no cracks inside.
