A boy accidentally fell into a manhole without a cover on it in southwestern China.

CCTV footage filmed in the city of Honghe in Yunnan Province on August 22 shows a boy looking back while walking forwards and falling into a manhole.

The boy's grandmother spotted the incident and ran back to pull the boy out of the manhole immediately.

The manhole was reportedly for the water gate valves. It was not covered after the construction work was finished.

Since the water was not deep, the boy only suffered minor scratches.

After the incident, the manhole has been covered with slate.
