Raging flash floods swamped rural homes as rainwater surged down from mountains in northeast Thailand.

The deluge on Thursday morning, August 25, came after several days of heavy rain in Nakhon Nayok in Nakhon Ratchasima province.

Footage shows home appliances being carried away by the muddy torrents while locals waded through the water to salvage valuables.

Governor Amphol Angkapakornkun has ordered local government departments to evacuate tourists from the area, which is popular because of its sprawling Khao Yai National Park. Rescue teams and soldiers have been sent in to help with the effort.

Thailand's Meteorological Department warned of more heavy rain across the country until Saturday, with severe flooding in 12 provinces.

The severe weather was triggered by a monsoon looming over Myanmar and northern Thailand while a low-pressure area formed in the region.

Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia, such as Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November.
