Woman climbs into 32ft deep pumping station drain to save dog stranded for three days
This is the heroic moment a woman climbed into a 32ft deep pumping station drain to save a dog that had been stranded there for three days.
The pooch's cries were heard by passing tourists, who found it wedged between pipes in the water-filled well in Ayutthaya province, Thailand, on August 24.
Worried about the female dog's health, they called rescue volunteers to evacuate it from the pit which had a depth of about 32 feet.
Video shows volunteer Chantra Bansudon, 38, climbing down a ladder and bravely jumping into the 6ft deep liquid to retrieve the exhausted animal. She then tied a rope around its body, which the other team members used to hoist the dog to safety.
A cursory check-up revealed that the poor dog was partially blind. Its legs kept giving out due to exhaustion, and its belly was distended - reportedly from gulping down too much of the filthy water.
Chantra said: ‘I'm glad to have been able to rescue the dog. If no one else saw it, it could have died. It must have been walking around the temple, but because of its terrible eyesight, it fell into the drain.
‘The ladder was slippery and the water was deep. I had to swim to catch the dog before tying a rope around it. We believe the dog was trapped down there for two to three days.'
The dog was given the nickname 'Gold' after the colour of its fur. She has been taken to a local vet and will then be donated to Buddhist monks at a temple in the area.
