Rohingya minorities marked the fifth 'Genocide Remembrance Day' in Bangladesh as they called for their safe repatriation to Myanmar.

The asylum-seekers staged small rallies across a dozen refugee camps on August 25, demanding justice for what is widely believed to be the state-sanctioned genocide of their people enforced by the brutal Burmese military five years ago.

They are seen raising placards and banners that read: 'We want our properties back. We are citizens of Myanmar. We are Rohingya.'

The Tatmadaw, Myanmar's armed forces, has been known to brutalise ethnic minorities, notably the Muslim Rohingya people. International rights groups have slammed the inhumane treatment of the minorities, which have reportedly involved gang rapes, village arsons, and infanticide.

Today, an estimated 890,000 Rohingya refugees have fled to the Cox Bazar region in Bangladesh. Meanwhile, there are about 92,00 of them in Thailand, 102,000 in Malaysia, and 21,000 in India.
