Villagers crowded into a petrol station to buy precious gasoline as Myanmar faces a fuel shortage.

Video shows locals forming long lines at the refilling station in Namkham town, Shan State on August 30.

The country's economy has been unstable following a military coup last February, with fuel prices skyrocketing to their second-highest level this year, allegedly due to the ruling junta's restrictions on imports and manipulation of the exchange rate.

Some gas stations in Yangon and Mandalay - Myanmar's largest cities - have reportedly closed as fuel supplies have dried up, while sales in other areas have been limited per customer.

Local media said each litre of gasoline costs about 3,000 kyats (about 1.44 USD). Each car owner can only buy 50,000 kyats (23.92 USD) worth of fuel per day, while motorcycle riders can purchase a tenth of that amount.
