Footage shows the aftermath of a fire at a market in the Democratic Republic of Congo in the early hours of Wednesday morning August 31.

Three pavilions were destroyed by the blaze which ripped through Marche de la Liberte in Kinshasa, the capital of the DRC.

Market manager Guyfoly Kabeya Pindi told local media that the inferno caused 'substantial damage'.

He said: 'We are thinking about and evaluating the material damage. Regarding the infrastructure, we had two charred pavilions 20 and 21 and eight stores.

'For the rest, it will take a little time given the damage but otherwise there has been no loss of life. Currently, we have isolated the site of the fire until the heat can decrease to begin the development of the site.'
