This is the bizarre moment a naked man was caught after climbing a Buddhist statue in Thailand.

Drug-addled Preecha Chumpla, 30, had reportedly fought with his parents, spewing insults and attacking them before storming off outside the family home in Nakhon Ratchasima province on August 26.

Inexplicably, he climbed up to the roof of their house after the argument, prompting his mum Taew Khuntod, 60, to call police for help as she feared for his safety. Officers trying to avoid a confrontation shouted for Chumpla to come back down, but he merely dashed off and headed for the public square with a metal weapon in hand.

The police gave chase and found him clambering on top of a religious statue with his buttocks and genitals on full display.

Civilians and law enforcers began spanking and prodding him with metal poles until he finally loosened his grip and fell to the ground. They then descended on him and pinned him down to prevent his escape.

After causing a scene, the troublemaker - apparently having calmed down from his delirium - was strapped onto a stretcher and wheeled away on a van to be taken to the local police station.

Taew claimed her son had been behaving erratically since the previous night after allegedly taking methamphetamine.

She said: 'When his father tried to talk him out of it, he hit him.'

Chumpla was detained at the Soeng Sang police station for interrogation pending drug tests and legal proceedings.
