Dozens of dogs enjoy plane ride with owners amid push for 'revenue-generating' pet-friendly flights
Dozens of dogs enjoyed a plane ride with their owners as officials pushed for 'revenue-generating' pet-friendly flights in Thailand.
The furry pets flew from Bangkok to Chiang Mai province aboard the chartered flight 'Paws Can Fly Season 1' organised by JerHigh, a pet food company founded in Saraburi province in 2002.
Passengers carried their beloved animal companions inside breathable bags as they jetted off in the skies on August 30. The flight is said to be the first to transport the most dogs to date in Thailand.
While onboard the Nok Air Boeing 737, air hostesses handed out doggy treats instead of in-flight meals.
Chiang Mai Tourism Business Association president Pacha Rattanaphan said such flights provide a unique opportunity for the province's tourism industry. While airlines believe that the pet-friendly flight niche could be an extra source of revenue.
Tourism boss Pacha said: 'Thailand is now campaigning to allow dogs to fly with their owners. At the moment, some restaurants and hotel resorts do not allow pets but more are starting to become more pet-friendly.
‘There are restaurants, for example, that have a designated space for pets. This sector of tourists who visit Chiang Mai will generate income for the province.'
