Firefighters battled a major blaze in Kharkiv, started by a Russian rocket attack on the Ukrainian city late on Saturday night.

Video shot in the early hours of Sunday 4 September, local time, showed firefighters battling to control the fire, which Ukrainian reports said began when Russian rockets hit civilian infrastructure.

One target struck was a restaurant complex in the Kyiv district of the city, whose structures were made of wood, causing a major fire across much of the complex.

Video showed firefighters battling the blaze, which affected two main buildings and a summer pavilion, across a claimed total area of 2,200 square meters (23,680 square feet).

Eight fire tankers, a first-aid fire-rescue vehicle and about 50 State Emergency Service personnel were involved in extinguishing the fire and preventing it spreading to nearby buildings and forest.

At 2:47am local time they managed to localise the fire, while still fighting to fully extinguish the blaze.
