Nail-biting drone footage shows daredevil teetering on tip of The Shard, UK's tallest building
Nail-biting drone footage shows the moment that a fearless free climber teeters on the very tip of the iconic London landmark The Shard.
Daredevil Adam Lockwood, 21 has scaled some of the world’s tallest structures and on September 4 posted a selfie of himself at the top of the tallest building in Britain.
Spectacular drone footage has now emerged, which shows the sheer scale of the feat, with epic views across London stretching out as Adam climbs around the top of the 1,016-foot skyscraper.
Adam and two others were arrested after the stunt, which even saw the cheeky climber reportedly wake up a sleeping anniversary couple, who were staying in a plush hotel on the 40th floor.
The area was cordoned off to rail passengers due to The Shard being close to London Bridge Station, after the climb was discovered at around 5 am on Sunday.
Adam, from Manchester, shared a snap of his latest conquest, showing him standing topless and wearing no shoes high above London’s skyline.
A friend said: "This isn't coming from a place of bad attitude, Adam is very passionate about trying to be a positive influence, and raise awareness of mental health, a cause he feels very passionate about.
"Adam is a person who genuinely wants to make the world a better place, and he has a heart of gold."
Police confirmed on Sunday that a 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of trespass, while two other men were being held on suspicion of causing a public nuisance.
It is now believed that the two men have been released without charge, while Adam still remains in custody.
A Met Police spokesperson on the day said: “Police were called at 5.38 am on September 4 following reports of a climber on the Shard.
“Officers, London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade all attended.
“A number of cordons were in place while emergency services responded to the incident.”
Adam has previously climbed buildings and structures across the world, dangling from the rafters of the 262-foot San Siro Stadium in Milan, doing pull-ups at the end of a 1,115-foot-tall beam at a power station in Croatia and posing as a workman to scale a 1,200-foot crane in Dubai.
Terrifyingly, he refuses to use any safety restraints, using only his grip and upper body strength to stop him falling from dizzying heights.
The skilled climber prepares for his stunts by training hard in climbing gyms, and taking on small secluded technical challenges which hones the different kinds of skills that he will need for his chosen feat.
Speaking previously, Adam said: “Hanging off things doesn’t feel like much, it feels surreal to be suspended that high with no safety, but like all my other hangs, my brain is blank, my heartbeat doesn’t go up, and it feels almost peaceful.
“It’s something I know I can do and that 99 per cent of the world can’t and never will do, so I feel obliged to use my ability and enjoy doing it in the process.
"I love seeing things from height, I love having my body suspended hundreds of meters in the sky, I love the challenges of infiltrating secure places to achieve these goals and it’s something that has kept me alive since I started, and I don’t think I can give it up.”
Adam, from Manchester, has previously been banned by a court from climbing tall buildings, but he breached the order and narrowly escaped jail.
