Dramatic dashcam footage has emerged from China of a car blasting out by accident.

The footage, captured on a dashboard mounted camera in Shandong Province last week, shows a group of local residents gathering around after the loud noise. Debris can also be seen lying behind the barely recognisable car.

According to news reports, the explosion was caused by a gas tank in the car boot that was set up to allow the vehicle to operate on gas as well as petrol.

The car carried no passengers and the driver was hospitalised. The police are reportedly undertaking further investigation.
