This is the dramatic moment anti-junta militia ambushed trucks allegedly carrying Burmese soldiers in Myanmar.

Video shows fighters from the local defence forces hiding within tall grass next to the highway before shooting at the convoy driving along the Yebyu township of Myanmar's Taninthayi region on September 2.

A barrage of gunshots was heard as both parties exchanged fire. Local media claimed at least five Burmese soldiers were killed.

Myanmar has suffered ongoing unrest and spiralled towards civil war following the removal of well-liked leader Aung San Suu Kyi in a military coup in February 2021 when the army seized power.

The United Kingdom advises organisations against carrying out business in the country and has imposed financial sanctions on a large number of individuals with links to the regime.
