This is the moment a marriage proposal almost went very wrong after a man dropped the wedding ring off a jetty and into the sea.

Filmed on September 6 in Torquay, Australia, the footage features Luke Aukuso, 26, on one knee asking his partner Stephanie lamb, 25, to marry him.

"My boyfriend asked me to marry him whilst wanting to ask my daughter Harper at the same time," Lamb said.

When opening the box Aukuso and Harper, 2, dropped the ring and it fell through a gap in the jetty's decking.

The 26-year-old immediately dived into the water despite being told "it's too shallow" by the filmer.

After a few moments, with the help of Lamb's parents, Aukuso managed to locate the ring.

Lamb said: "Luke jumped up and emptied his pockets, and jumped 6 metres into 1-metre-shallow tidewater. Landing on his left side and losing his ear spacer.

"My father then got down and helped spot the ring, and led luke to the ring. The ring was located and was safely put on my finger after he made it back to shore."
