A sweet toothed wild bear raided a family's kitchen to steal a freshly-baked cake in California.

The black bear sneaked inside the property through an open door and followed the smell of pastry in Simi Valley on September 4.

It feasted on the dessert while a scared mother and her son retreated to their upstairs bedroom to hide and called the police, who chased the animal out of the house.

Police action camera footage shows the officers carefully entering the property before finding the bear escaping from the back door as it heard them approaching.

The Simi Valley Police Department said in a report: 'As the officers entered the residence, they observed the bear in the kitchen.

'It appeared the bear ate a freshly baked cake and rummaged through the refrigerator.'

The hungry creature made a mess in the kitchen and ate the family's food supply.

The report added: 'The officers unlocked the front door and entered the residence armed with a less lethal launcher. The launcher deploys a large rubber projectile and was intended to be used on the bear to scare it out of the residence.'

Cops did not have to use the rubber bullets as the bear left the property on its own upon hearing them coming.

The bear was seen coming out of the house and climbing up a tree, where it stayed for 10 minutes before walking back to the hills.
